Brimley, MI – Bay Mills Community College (BMCC) is proud to announce the launch of a new Certificate of Completion in Accounting, set to begin in the Spring 2026 semester. This fully online program is designed to equip students with foundational accounting knowledge and practical skills for immediate entry into in-demand careers while also creating a clear pathway for those pursuing advanced credentials, including the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

The 26-credit certificate program provides targeted training in essential areas such as payroll accounting, QuickBooks, spreadsheet management, financial management, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems. It is structured to prepare graduates for roles such as bookkeeping clerks, accounting assistants, tax preparers, and financial administrative support, with particular relevance for positions within tribal governments and local businesses.

"The new Certificate of Completion in Accounting does exactly that by providing accessible, high-quality training for individuals seeking stable, in-demand careers," said Brandy Ball, Department Chair of Business Administration/Office Administration at BMCC. "At Bay Mills Community College, our mission is to create educational opportunities that strengthen our tribal communities and the region we serve. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort and supporting students as they build the foundations of long-term success.”

A key feature of the program is its alignment with professional certification goals. The certificate is designed to be taken concurrently with or after a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree to help students meet the 150-credit hour requirement to sit for the CPA exam in Michigan. Notably, a CPA license from Michigan meets "substantial equivalency" standards, allowing for interstate practice rights in most U.S. jurisdictions without obtaining additional licenses.

“This new certificate program reflects Bay Mills Community College’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that meets the needs of our students and the communities we serve,” said BMCC President Dr. Duane Bedell. “By offering practical, career-focused training in accounting, we are opening doors to stable employment opportunities and supporting pathways to advanced credentials like the CPA license. Our goal is to empower learners to succeed in today’s workforce while strengthening the economic vitality of our region.”
