At Bay Mills Community College (BMCC), we take pride in our roots, our community, and the traditions that shape who we are. Today, we’re excited to introduce a unifying identity for our student body - The Pikes - inspired by our beloved mascot, Gilly Gnoozhe, the Northern Pike.

Why "The Pikes"?

The name holds deep significance for our college and the Bay Mills Indian Community. Our campus resides in Gnoozhekaaning, which means "The Place of the Pike" in Ojibwe. The Northern Pike is powerful fish. It’s a symbol of strength, resilience, and connection to the land and water that sustain us.

By embracing The Pikes as our collective identity, we honor our heritage while creating a sense of belonging for students, staff, and families. Whether you're a current student, an alum, or a supporter of BMCC, you can now proudly say: "I am a Pike!"

More Than a Name - A Shared Legacy

While BMCC isn’t launching any sports teams (yet!), that doesn’t mean we can’t have school spirit! The Pikes gives us a way to rally together, celebrate our achievements, and build camaraderie. It’s an identity that connects us to:

  • Our Culture – Reflecting the traditions of the Bay Mills Indian Community.

  • Our Community – Uniting students, faculty, and families under one name.

  • Our Future – Inspiring pride and passion in everything we do at BMCC.

What’s Next for The Pikes?

This is just the beginning. As our student body grows, so will the spirit of The Pikes. Who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll see BMCC athletes competing as The Pikes. But for now, it’s all about pride, unity, and celebrating who we are.

So let’s embrace it, Pikes! Share the name, wear it with pride, and let’s make this identity a lasting part of BMCC’s legacy.

Let us know how you’ll represent The Pikes!
