March 14, 2026 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brimley, MI – In a bold response to the regional healthcare workforce shortages highlighted during the pandemic, Bay Mills Community College (BMCC) is thrilled to announce the development of its cutting-edge Allied Health Facility. This ambitious 36,000-square-foot project, which will be constructed on the college's main campus in Bay Mills, will replace the existing old library building and represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of the community, as well as the future of local education. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2026, with the facility projected to open its doors in Fall 2027. A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be announced at a later date.

The inspiration for this innovative facility began with crucial conversations at BMCC about the urgent need for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs. These discussions quickly evolved into action, and in 2022, BMCC partnered with DSGW to design a center that would set a new standard for healthcare education. Through a collaborative, diligent process with dedicated internal teams, the vision for an inspiring and fully equipped Allied Health Facility was realized.

Scheduled for completion in late August 2027, the new facility will feature a state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab and an EMT lab, providing hands-on, real-world training for aspiring healthcare professionals. In addition, the building will include modern office spaces for academic staff, a relocated and expanded library, and a full-service cafeteria designed to support students and staff alike.

"Bay Mills Indian Community is very proud of Bay Mills Community College's Allied Health Facility. This structure is about investing in opportunity, empowerment, and the future of our students,” said Whitney Gravelle, President of the Bay Mills Indian Community and Chair of the BMCC Board of Regents. “By creating more space for learning and services, we are building a place where every student can thrive, connect with their culture, and build the skills they need to succeed in life and in their communities.”

Dr. Duane Bedell, President of Bay Mills Community College, highlighted the college's commitment to this dual mission. “I am incredibly proud of what we are accomplishing together at Bay Mills Community College,” said Bedell. “This project reflects our ability to respond to today’s healthcare workforce demands while never losing sight of what matters most: ensuring our students are prepared to transition confidently into meaningful employment when they complete their programs. This kind of impact doesn’t happen by chance. It is the result of the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of so many people across BMCC, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, expertise, and passion to bringing this vision to life.”

BMCC’s Allied Health Facility will be a promise to the community and a beacon for those looking to make a difference in healthcare. With this new center, BMCC is poised to train the next generation of healthcare workers, ensuring that the region is better prepared to meet any challenge and care for its residents for years to come.
