Anishinaabe Language Instruction Program

Associate of Arts

The Anishinaabe Language Instruction program is designed to encourage and promote the understanding and preservation of the Anishinaabe language and prepare the student to function as a language instructor. It is also designed to enhance student’s cultural awareness and offer the opportunity to develop a functional command of the Anishinaabe language, which can be further expanded through additional study or through contact with other speakers of the language. Students will gain an understanding of the structure of the language, learn pedagogical principles and methods for teaching Anishinaabemowin.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program should be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of the structure of the language, learn pedagogical principles and methods for teaching Anishinaabemowin
  • Demonstrate the level of Intermediate-mid Anishinaabemowin Language Proficiency in listening and speaking
  • Achieve understanding of Anishinaabe Language by using all available sources of information, including the immersion instructor’s tone of voice, gestures and situational clues.
  • Recognize the sounds of speech that represent specific objects and ideas
