Eduroam
Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, worldwide wireless access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows students, faculty, and staff to connect to the internet at thousands of participating institutions around the globe using their home institution's credentials.
What is eduroam?
Eduroam provides a seamless internet experience across participating universities, colleges, K-12 schools, and research institutions. Once configured, your device will automatically connect to eduroam wherever it is available, eliminating the need to register or request guest access at each location.
Who can use eduroam?
-
Current students
-
Faculty and staff
-
Visiting users from other eduroam-enabled institutions
Your credentials from your home institution will authenticate your device and provide
secure network access at BMCC and any other eduroam-enabled location.
Do I have to use eduroam?
No, connecting to eduroam is not mandatory.
BMCC will continue to offer a separate Guest Wi-Fi option for visitors and those who do not wish to use eduroam.
However, we strongly recommend using eduroam if you're a student, faculty member, or staff. It provides the most secure, reliable, and high-speed connection available on campus, and it works seamlessly at other participating institutions as well.
How to Connect
For Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS:
-
Select the eduroam network from your list of available Wi-Fi networks.
-
Enter your credentials in the following format:
Employees: [email protected]
Students: [email protected]
(Example: [email protected], [email protected]) -
Enter your password (the same one you use for your BMCC email).
-
Accept any certificate prompts that appear (you may be asked to verify the secure server certificate the first time you connect).
-
You should now be connected securely to eduroam!
Troubleshooting
-
Double-check your username format — it must include your full email address, including the part after the @ sign.
-
Ensure your password is correct.
-
If you’ve changed your password recently, you may need to "Forget" the eduroam network and reconnect with updated credentials.
-
If you're unable to connect, try resetting your network settings (iOS) or contacting BMCC's IT Support.
